At the end of October we sent out an email request to SiDE Pool members with email addresses.

We asked them to complete a survey regarding their motivations for taking part in research...

A Message from Brian Cox (University Rector, Hollywood Star and Son of Dundee)

Details:

Brian Cox is unable to join us at the User Pool Celebration on Saturday February 7th but he sends us a message from New York where he is filming:

To members of the SiDE User Pool and the magnificent people of Dundee:

I am very sorry to miss this event celebrating the work of the SiDE User Pool researching into the digital exclusion of older adults and people with disabilities.

It comes as no surprise to me to hear of the outstanding contribution the people of Dundee, Fife and Tayside have made to university research. This is a population renowned for their generosity of spirit and their unstinting voluntary work supporting their children, grandchildren, parents, friends and neighbours.  You only have to pass through Ninewells hospital or wander through one of the neighbourhood centres to see how much this population support their communities.

However, I was impressed to hear that out of 800 members of the User Pool 693 took part in one or more activities. Your input has contributed to the knowledge and integrity of the research but more importantly it has helped young researchers to understand how vital it is to work with the potential users of technology from the earliest idea and throughout the research, if the end product is going to be usable, useful and relevant.

Congratulations to you all.

Brian Cox.
